Keys Explorer quick start guide

Please, read thoroughly!

Imagine you own a Christmas holidays website and you wish to win search engines competition and drive the most targeted visitors to your website.

What are single words or simple phrases, which are the most descriptive for your online business? The first that come to your mind can be the ones you need to start with.

If your website possesses Christmas wallpapers, screensavers, pictures, cards etc., the very first words most probably are 'christmas', 'winter holidays', 'desktop wallpapers', 'wallpapers', etc.

You do the following:

press either 'Edit' / 'New Key' in the software menu, or press the 'New Key' button.

And type your keys in the box. You can later add new keys, or remove any, but you can not modify (rename) them.

If you are connected to Internet, and you have an active software trial, this must initiate Internet requests.

You will then get these results. (Zero popularity for 'wallpapers' is quite OK, this just means it is not a canonical form - you will find canonical key in more specific keys list, when you doubleclick 'wallpapers').

Keys which have any number of more specific keys are displayed as folders.

If there are no more specific keys - they are displayed as files.

If it is unknown, if there are any more specific keys for the key - it is displayed with a question mark. Specific keys information is automatically processed with each new key popularity request. If there is no popularity request done for a specific key automatically - you must doubleclick the key to get its specific keys list.

Now, if you either doubleclick 'christmas', or select it in the project folders tree view, you will get a list of all popular specific keys for 'christmas'. When all competitions are requested from Internet, keys list view should look like this:

Some theory: each key has its popularity index (the number of queries on Overture withing a month) and a competition index (the number of complete phrases in Google index). The key preference is an abstract value calculated by dividing popularity by competition: more popular and less competitive get the priority.

Next step you should thoroughly review keys in the list view, and check the ones which best describe your business with a mark.

Marked keys are automatically queried for more specific keys. You must go the deepest available level for each key to find out the most specific ones. Preference index for more specific children keys is higher than their parental keys.

If you wish query any key for more specific keys without placing a mark, just doubleclick the key.

Finally, you get a huge tree scructured database of keys which describe your business.

When you are done with exploring keys and pointing the most descriptive with marks, you can switch to Keys Explorer's reporting area.

Reporting contains all keys you marked manually as descriptive for your business.

You can either copy selected keys to clipboard, or export all keys to a text file.

The results of this work:

OKay keywords are all with zero competition and that with high priority index, like 'background tile christmas', 'free christmas background picture', 'christmas borders and background', 'christmas e mail background', 'free christmas tree picture', etc.

It is almost useless to target such phrases like 'christmas background download', 'christmas photo', 'christmas card', 'christmas holiday background', 'christmas background screen' and lots of others of low priority.

The solution is simple: target more preferred keys and avoid targeting less preferred keys, when writing products descriptions you submit or post anywhere in the Web, when modifying web pages TITLE or META tags, when writing HTML headings, or web pages text.
